Mount Morris Talks to Vy Higginsen,
Thursday, March 10. Come Listen!

Vy Higginsen
In the words of Vy Higginsen, “The success of any people, idea, product or service depends on the ability to communicate successfully.” And this producer, publisher, pioneer has been proving those words true for more than 40 years.
In her rise to the top of several careers, she was the first woman in advertising sales for Ebony Magazine and NYC’s first woman in prime time radio at WBLS-FM. She is now adding to that list of firsts her first appearance at Mount Morris Talks on Thursday, March 10.
A renaissance woman and a visionary, Vy Higginsen has decades’ worth of other accomplishments as well. She also:
• Published Unique NY, a black lifestyles magazine
• Wrote and produced Mama, I Want to Sing, which became the longest running black off-Broadway musical in the history of the American theater and toured Japan, the Caribbean, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy
• Founded the Mama Foundation for the Arts to present, preserve and promote gospel, jazz and the R&B arts for current and future generations
• Conceived and produced the I Gotta Praise Sunday gospel brunch and the Let Me Off In Harlem Saturday night dinner theater at Jimmy’s Café
She is ordained as an interfaith minister and – not surprisingly – has been named a Harlem Hero in Harlem Is …, a public art and education project of Community Works that celebrates the living history of Harlem at the Schomburg Center.
Vy Higginsen is bringing her wit and wisdom, her inspiration and her proven ability to communicate the stories of a life fully lived to the Harlem Branch of the New York Public Library at 6:30 PM, Thursday, March 10, 2011. Don’t miss this opportunity to listen to and talk with one of Harlem’s most accomplished women and most treasured jewels.
Mount Morris Talks! is a series of conversations between the community and leaders, news makers, artists, authors and thinkers who live in the Harlem area. MMPCIA is proud to sponsor this series and offers it free of charge to the community.
